From 6 to 10 October 2025, members of the Refugee Advisory Board Germany (RAB Germany) participated in the UNHCR Executive Committee (ExCom) session in Geneva.
Majdi Laktinah took part as a member of the German delegation, contributing refugee perspectives to the preparation of Germany’s attendance in the meeting and to the delegation’s engagement during ExCom. He provided analytical input on key protection and displacement issues and actively participated in side events, including the session “Realizing the Global Compact on Refugees Objective: Creating the Conditions for a Sustainable Return”, where he shared reflections on the situation in Syria and presented concrete recommendations on sustainable return. His contributions informed follow-up discussions with the German Federal Foreign Office (AA), the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and other stakeholders.
Nyima Jadama contributed through active participation in plenary discussions and side events, including the session “Strengthening Asylum at a Time of Challenges”. She provided input and feedback on joint NGO, refugee-led organisation and R-SEAT statements, highlighting the risks of weakening the international refugee protection framework amid rising global displacement and mixed movements. Nyima also engaged in dialogues with refugee leaders and partners, strengthening collaboration and coordination with refugee-led networks.
On the margins of ExCom, RAB Germany held follow-up exchanges with Niels Annen, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), discussing recent RAB activities, participation at ExCom, newly selected Board Members and priorities for the months ahead. The engagement reaffirmed institutional support for continued collaboration and regular exchange.
